Sansevieria Boncel Mini
Sansevieria Boncel Mini (often called the Dwarf Starfish Sansevieria) is an ultra-compact mutation of the already shortened ‘Boncel’ cultivar. Because it naturally stays so small, it is an excellent, high-margin item to offer through Seedlings India for customers looking for desktop companions or terrarium-sized succulents.
Growth & Characteristics
The ‘Boncel Mini’ takes the architectural fan shape of standard S. cylindrica and shrinks it down into a tiny, chubby package.
-
Foliage: The leaves of Sansevieria Boncel Mini are extremely short, stout, and cylindrical, tapering to a point. They are typically light grayish-green with darker green concentric bands.
-
Form: Sansevieria Boncel Mini grows in a highly regimented, two-dimensional fan shape.
-
Size: This is a true dwarf. The leaves rarely exceed 3 to 4 inches in length. It maintains its compact footprint indefinitely.
-
Offsetting: It is a prolific pupper, sending out underground runners to form tight clusters of miniature fans if given room in the pot to spread.
Cultivation and Care
It shares the bulletproof resilience of larger snake plants, but its small size dictates a few minor adjustments in how it is potted and watered:
-
Light: Highly adaptable. It prefers bright, indirect light but will easily tolerate low-light office environments without stretching (etiolating) as noticeably as other varieties.
-
Watering: The fleshy fingers store water, so the soil must dry out 100% between waterings. Because it is usually kept in very small pots, the soil mass will dry out faster than a large floor plant, meaning it might need slightly more frequent watering cycles than a giant S. cylindrica, though it still thrives on neglect.
-
Soil and Pots: A gritty, fast-draining cactus mix is essential. Shallow, wide pots work best, giving its rhizomes room to send up new pups while preventing the soil from staying too wet around the roots.
