Bowiea volubilis
Bowiea volubilis, commonly known as the Climbing Onion or Sea Onion, is a fascinating caudiciform succulent that captivates collectors with its unusual growth habit. This rare specimen features a large, bulbous green caudex that sits above the soil, producing delicate, twining vines with fine, thread-like foliage during its active growing season.
Native to South Africa, this deciduous species offers a unique display as its climbing stems can reach several feet in length, creating an elegant cascading or climbing effect. The bulb enters dormancy after flowering, during which the vines naturally die back. This cyclical growth pattern makes it a particularly intriguing addition to any serious succulent collection.
